How to Make Vista Basic Operate Like Mac OS

Some Windows PC users who upgraded their operating system from XP to Vista experienced a bit of buyer's remorse. The magazine PC World called Vista the number one "biggest tech disappointment of 2007," and Infoworld listed Vista as number two in "tech's all-time top 25 flops," saying "the new OS seemed like little more than a bloated rehash of Windows XP." While someone may not have the budget to buy an Apple computer to replace their Vista-running PC, there are ways to make Vista at least appear more like Apple's OS X operating system and duplicate certain features using the free Vista OS X program.
  • Turning Vista into Mac OS X

    • 1

Click the Windows logo at the lower-left-hand side of the screen. Access the "Control Panel" from the window that pops up. Click "UAC" and click "Disable." Disabling the user account control security system, abbreviated as UAC, is necessary before operating Vista OS X, or the program will fail.

Download the Vista OS X program from its Softonic website (see Resources) and install it on your Vista-running computer.

Activate Vista OS X and choose which OS X features you would like your Vista-running computer to have. Vista OS X switches Vista's visual style and application skins to something more similar to that of OS X, including the option of installing OS X-style system files window skin, wallpapers, screensavers, dock and desktop work spaces. It also comes with themes that imitate versions of OS X such as Leopard.
