How to Modify Projector Headlights

Although projector headlights are known for enhancing the brightness and style of your headlight beams, you may wish to enhance your headlights further by installing High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlight bulbs in the projector headlights. HID headlights are brighter and last longer than most halogen headlights that come in projector headlights. For high speed and performance driving, HID headlight bulbs in projector headlights can significantly improve your visibility on the road. They aren't cheap. Expect to spend about 100 dollars on a pair of HID headlights. Fortunately, installing them yourself in the projector headlights is a simple task.

Turn your headlight switch to Off, then turn off your vehicle, and prop open the hood with the hood support rod.

    • 2

Disconnect the wiring harness on the back of the projector headlight assembly by pressing in on the side tabs of the harness and pulling it straight out.

    • 3

Twist off the rear projector headlight socket from the projector headlight assembly by turning it counterclockwise.

    • 4

Put on your latex gloves and turn the headlight bulb currently in the projector headlights until the tabs on the headlight bulb's base align with the slots in the inner housing and pull the headlight out of the projector headlight assembly. Save for reuse or to resell.

Connect the wiring harness you removed earlier to the ballast that comes with the HID headlight installation kit.

    • 6

Connect the ballast to the rear of the HID headlight bulb and set the HID headlight in the projector headlight assembly in the same way the previous bulb was set.

    • 7

Mount the ballast to the rear of the projector headlight assembly using the double-sided adhesive pad that comes in the HID headlight installation kit.
