How to Open Clips for the Taillight on a Geo Prizm

When a taillight bulb burns out in the Geo Prizm, you can replace it at home to save the expense of a mechanic. You must remove the carpeting that lines the rear of the taillight assembly to access the bulbs. Detach the retaining clips properly so you can reuse them to secure the carpet lining afterward, preventing wear and tear on your Prizm's upholstery.

  Turn off the headlight switch and the car's ignition. Remove the key from the ignition cylinder.

  Open the Prizm's trunk. Locate the retaining clips on the carpet liner behind the taillight assembly.

  Insert a flat-blade screwdriver behind the retaining clip, and twist the screwdriver slightly to pry the clip loose.

  Pull the clip out of the trunk area once it releases from the carpet liner. Repeat the process for all the retaining clips behind the taillight assembly.
