How to Overclock on a ASUS MSN-SLI Motherboard CPU

Computer systems operate at a speed determined by their CPU (Central Processing Unit), motherboard and other components. A computer's motherboard, like the ASUS MSN-SLI, determines the rate at which the CPU and other small components operate. Overclocking a CPU through motherboard BIOS settings enables the PC to operate at a level faster than the defaults. The motherboard's front bus speed and the CPU's multiplier value are raised to bring about faster processing speeds.

Boot the PC holding the ASUS MSN-SLI motherboard. Press and hold the "F11," "F8" or "Esc" key, depending on your system, to navigate into the boot menu.

Enter into the "BIOS" section of the system's boot menu. Move the cursor over the "Front Side Bus" or "Bus Speed" option and hit the "Enter" key. Change the initially selected value to a higher setting and press "Enter." This raises the speed of the computer system's front bus, which allows the system to operate at a faster speed.

Enter the "CPU" or "CPU Core" section found in the "BIOS" menu. Locate the "Multiplier" entry and hit "Enter." If a list of options appears in a pop-up window, increase the initial value by one and hit "Enter." Some CPUs are unable to have their multiplier value changed.
