How to Paint a Cute Pumpkin Face

You don't have to pull out a large knife to have beautiful pumpkins around your home this fall. Painting a pumpkin is a fun and kid-friendly way to have pretty pumpkins on your porch. You can paint a simple smiley face or an elaborate scene on anything from palm-sized pumpkins to a 10-pounder. Plus, unlike with a carved pumpkin, you can still cook and eat the pumpkin when the season is over.

Rinse the pumpkin in cool water to remove any dirt. Pat it dry with paper towels.

Using a dry erase marker, draw your design on to the pumpkin. If you make a mistake, gently wipe it away and start over.

Dip a paintbrush in some acrylic paint, and begin your design. Use different brushes for different colors - or wash the brush between colors. You can also use your fingers and hands for a fun design.

Once dry, spray with a clear varnish or sealer, and your pumpkin will last even longer.
