Wash peanuts very carefully in cool water and follow with a 30-minute soak in clean water ahead of cooking. Place peanuts into a saucepan and submerge them in water.
- 2
Add one tablespoon of salt for each pint of peanuts. The cooking period varies depending on the maturity and the variety of the peanuts. As a rule of thumb "freshly picked" green peanuts will be ready much faster than the ones from storage.
- 3
Simmer in water for about 30 minutes and taste the peanuts. If you do not taste salt, add a bit more. Keep checking every five minutes for both taste and texture. Once they are both satisfactory, turn off the stove.
- 4
Drain the peanuts quickly or they will absorb too much salt. Allow them to cool before placing them into a container.
- 5
Package the peanuts in a vapor-proof freezer container or a bowl, depending on whether you are going to eat them right away or want to store them. Store the container at 0 degrees Fahrenheit or lower. Remove from the freezer and thaw before eating.
