How to Pulverize Cardboard

Cardboard is a versatile material that can be used in a variety of ways. According to Planet Green, cardboard can be used to counter-balance unpleasant smells in compost piles. Cardboard is considered a "brown" material, and compost needs a healthy balance of "brown" and "green" material. Pulverized cardboard can be used to make a paste for papier mache projects and collages by adding water. Outdoor plants can be insulated using crushed cardboard; spread shredded cardboard over the roots of plants to keep them warm.

Take any pieces of cardboard that need to be pulverized and cut or tear them into 6-inch by 6-inch sections.

    • 2

Place one or two sections into the blender or processor at a time.

    • 3

Use the "Chop" setting on your blender or processor; this will break the cardboard into smaller pieces. If the blender or processor does not have a "Chop" button, use a "Dry" material setting.

    • 4

Finish breaking down the cardboard by using the "Grate" button on your processor or blender. If you do not have a "Grate" button, use the finest material setting that your machine has.

    • 5

Empty the contents of the blender or processor into a bowl, and repeat Steps 1 through 4 until you have pulverized all of the cardboard.
