How to Recycle Tractor Tires

One of the best ways to recycle a tractor tire is to reuse it. Tractor tires are large, sturdy and excellent for use as a child's sandbox. The sides are sturdy enough to sit on, the round, rubber edges are safe for playing and the inside is big enough to allow two or three children to play without crowding.

Scrub the tire with a brush and soapy water. Clean the inside of the tire as well. Tires are dirty from use, and tractor tires have possibly been through bio-waste as well. A high-powered hose will help get your tire clean if you have access to one.

Dig a pit that is half the depth of the tire and large enough for the tire to sit in. Use your shovel to dig the pit. This will make it easier for small children to use the sandbox without having to climb the high side of the tire.

Set the tire inside the pit and fill with sand. You can purchase sandbox sand at home improvement stores. Fill to just the top sidewall. This will allow your children to sit on the edge of the tire and reach the sand, and to sit inside the sandbox without fear of falling over the side.

Cover the sandbox with a tarp when not in use to keep animals from using it as a litter box. Put the tarp over the tire and hold in place with bricks or large rocks.
