How to Refill an HP CC656AN

The HP CC656AN is the Hewlett Packard Officejet 901 tricolor ink cartridge that yields up to 360 pages. HP 901 ink cartridges fit the HP Officejet J4680, J4580, J4550 and the 4500 Wireless printers. Refill kits will fill the cartridge up to eight times, depending on what refill kit is purchased. Ink cartridges should be refilled as soon as the cartridge is empty to prevent the cartridge from drying out.

  Remove the label from the cartridge. Lay the cartridge on its side on paper towels. Remove the contents of the kit, which will have three syringes (one for each color), and one bottle of cyan, magenta and yellow ink.

  Place the needle in the syringe inside the bottle of ink. Pull up on the top to draw out 5 ml ink. Do this for each color, using a separate syringe for each color.

  Place the needle into the vent hole. Place a finger over the two other color vent holes to prevent color contamination. Slowly press down on the top of the syringe to inject the ink into the sponge. If the ink bubbles out the top, stop and wipe with paper towel. Inject yellow ink in the top-center hole, cyan in the bottom-right hole and magenta in the bottom-left hole.

  Place the fill HP 901 ink cartridge in the printer. Run two to three test pages using any document to cycle the ink.
