How to Relaunch Finder

If an application becomes unresponsive on your Mac OS X operating system, then you can use the "Force Quit" or "Relaunch" functions. However, if Finder becomes unresponsive or slows down, you may find it hard to relaunch or close the application in the usual way. Apple hides the ways to relaunch Finder so that you do not accidentally do it. There are a few methods for relaunching Finder if you need to.

      Hold down the "Alt-Option" button and right-click the "Finder" icon on the Dock. Click "Relaunch."

      Click "Applications," then "Utilities," then "Terminal." Type "killall Finder" (without quotes) and press "Enter." This will end the Finder process and relaunch it.

      Press "Command"+"Alt-Option"+"Esc" to bring up "Force Quit Applications." Click "Finder," then click "Relaunch."
