How to Remove Advertising From Printing Jobs

Reading documents in printed format never went out of style, and Internet users often choose to print articles from their favorite websites or read a hard copy of PDF files, rather than view these on their computer screens. Statistics published by Hewlett Packard suggest that the number of pages printed worldwide using computer printers reached 53 trillion in 2009. Some of the world's most prominent newspapers, including The New York Times, The Guardian and The Washington Post, offer users a tool that allows them to access printer-friendly formats of each article, but only some papers ensure that these are devoid of advertisements. Yet removing pesky (and color ink-wasting) ads from your printing jobs can be a lot easier than you think.

Click the "print screen" button on your keyboard, once you have found a web page that you would like to print. You can find this button on the top right-hand corner of most desktop and laptop keyboards. On laptops, the print screen function is located directly above the backspace button.

Open the Windows Paint program, found on all PCs. You can find the program by opening the start menu, searching under "all programs," and then clicking on the "accessories" heading. Apple users should open the Paintbrush program, which is the equivalent and available on Mac OS X computers.

Paste the selected screen shot by opening the "edit" tab and clicking on paste. Alternatively, you can also press the control button, followed immediately by the letter "C" on your keyboard, and the image should immediately appear in Paint.

Use the "crop" tool found in both Paint and Paintbrush to remove advertisements on either side of the page, or from the header and footer. Once you have selected an area to crop, copy this part of the image and open it in a new Paint file. Your printed material is now devoid of any advertisements on any side. You may also choose to modify the page's layout by changing from portrait to landscape, depending on the size and shape of the page that you are trying to print.
