How to Remove the Battery From a Yamaha Midnight Star

Yamaha's Road Star line of cruisers use varying methods to access their batteries: some use a locking seat-release mechanism, while others rely on a basic nut-and-bolt system. The Midnight Star, however, uses a removable side cover on the right side of the frame to house the battery. Removing the battery is fairly straightforward, but pay attention to the order that the battery cables are removed to prevent a nasty electrical shock.

      Pull the right side cover beneath the rider's seat out of the frame's grommets to access the battery.

      Pull the rubber battery strap off of the top of the battery box and lay it aside.

      Pull the battery out of the battery box slightly. Unscrew the bolt from the battery's negative terminal, using a Philips screwdriver. Pull the negative cable away from the battery and frame.

      Pull the battery out of the tray until you can access its positive terminal. Unscrew the bolt from the positive terminal, using a Phillips screwdriver. Pull the positive cable off of the battery.
