How to Repair the PCV on a Ford Contour

The Ford Contour was produced from 1995 through 2000. The Contour was available with a four-cylinder as well as a 24-valve, V-6 engine. The initials PCV stand for Positive Crankcase Ventilation. The PCV valve ventilates harmful vapors from the engine back into the engine's combustion cycle to reduce harmful emissions. Changing the PCV valve on the Contour's four-cylinder engine is nearly identical to changing the PCV valve on the V-6. Part placement is the variable factor between the two engines pertaining to the PCV valve.

  Open the hood of the Contour. Visually locate the PCV valve on the rear driver's side of the engine. The PCV valve is inserted near the back of the valve cover.

  Pull out the old PCV valve. Separate the PCV valve from the PCV hose by pulling the hose with one hand and the PCV valve with the other.

  Install the PCV hose onto the new PCV valve by pushing both parts together.

  Reinstall the PCV valve into the rear of the engine in the same port that you removed it from.
