How to Replace the Battery in a 1997 Corvette

If you have trouble starting a 1997 Corvette, the battery could be the problem. When the new battery is purchased, the retailer typically charges a core fee. The extra fee is refunded if the used battery is returned to the retailer. This helps guarantee proper disposal of car batteries. The battery in a 1997 Corvette is under the hood, on the passenger's side of the vehicle. Batteries contain acid, so they should be kept level when being handled.

      Park the Corvette on a flat, level surface. Set the parking brake. Open the hood and secure it in place with the hood prop.

      Disconnect the negative battery cable with a crescent wrench. The negative cable is the black cable attached to the battery.

      Disconnect the positive battery cable with a crescent wrench. The positive cable is the red cable.

      Remove the two bolts in the battery harness with a socket wrench. Remove the harness. Lift the battery straight up and out of the vehicle.

      Spread dielectric grease on the new battery's terminals. Place the battery on the battery mounting shelf.

      Place the battery harness around the battery. Install the two bolts that hold the harness in place by using a socket wrench. Replace the positive battery cable, and tighten it with a crescent wrench. Replace the negative battery cable, and tighten it with a crescent wrench.
