How to Replace a Three-Wire Power Cord With a Four-Wire Power Cord

Older 220 volt AC outlets are equipped with three wires. This presents a potential problem for people purchasing newer appliances, such as a clothes dryer, that has four. Swapping these power cords is inexpensive and safer than attempting to modify in-wall wiring. All that is needed to complete this task are simple household tools, keeping the installation compliant with the National Electrical Code. Replacement cords are available at nearly any major home improvement store or location that sells appliances.
