How to Reset SRS Light on a 1997 Honda Civic

SRS stands for Supplemental Restraint System; it refers to the mechanism that deploys the airbag when you are in an accident. If an error occurs with your airbag, your 1997 Honda Civic has a light that will come on to let you know that there is an issue. You will need to reset the light once the problem has been solved. .

      Look for the fuse panel cover in the Civic. It is usually located under the steering column. Pull down the cover with your fingers.

      Find the small, yellow plug inside the fuse box. This plug is the SRS power connector. Disconnect it from the fuse panel.

      Straighten out a paperclip. Place end of the paperclip into one terminal on the power connector. Push the other end of the paperclip into the opposite terminal. This will reset the system.

      Turn the key in the ignition to the "on" position, but do not crank the engine. When the SRS light turns off it has been reset. Turn off the car and replace the connector in the fuse panel.

      Start your car and make sure that the SRS light remains off.
