How to Restring a Weed Eater Spool

A Weed Eater can be an efficient tool for cutting tall grass and weeds next to structures and along sidewalks. These tools use a plastic string wound around a spool, which spins at high speed to cut down weeds and grass. When the string runs out on your Weed Eater, you must restring before using it again. Specific directions will vary from model to model, but the basics of restringing a Weed Eater spool will be the same for most machines.

Remove the spool from the Weed Eater head. Line up any arrows on the head or press in any release buttons that are necessary to pull the spool from the head. Take all the old line off the spool.

    • 2

Put the end of the new string through the hole located in the spool. Wind string around the spool; there will usually be a specific direction indicated on the spool. Press the line into the holder or retainer that allows it to be placed through the hole in the head where it cuts.

Feed the end of the line that you placed in the retainer through the exit hole on the head. Pull the string until it is tight around the spool and trim off any excess line to the appropriate length for your Weed Eater.
