How to Revive a Motorcycle Battery

Batteries are designed to maintain and hold a fairly steady amount of electrical charge within their cells. So if the power in your motorcycle runs out and you fail to supply it with a new charge of power, eventually the battery will not be able to start up. Don't trash an old, worn battery though because there is a way to revive your bike battery and bring it to new life. If the battery is suitable for restoration, it will perform as usual when you are finished.
    • 1

Disconnect the battery from the motorcycle and connect it to the slow-charge desulfator battery charger. Hook the positive clamp to the positive battery terminal and the ground to the ground.

    • 2

Leave the battery hooked up to the charger overnight or longer if the charger doesn't indicate it is finished. Just wait until the lights on the charger tell you the cycle has competed.

    • 3

Test the battery in your bike to see if it has been revived. If not, move on to the next method.

    • 4

Pop off the cell caps on the top of the battery with a screwdriver and spill out the acid inside. You can reuse this acid once you are finished reviving the battery.

    • 5

Dissolve 2 tablespoons of tetrasodium in 1 quart of water and fill each cell with the mixture. Leave the battery to soak overnight.

    • 6

Check the color of the fluid in the cells in the morning. If it is not clean and clear in color, empty out the cells and refill them with more of the tetrasodium mixture.

    • 7

Empty and refill the cells until the fluid inside is clear when you check it in the morning. Refill the cells' battery acid with either new or the acid you removed earlier.
