How to Unlock Docomo Phones

Docomo is a popular brand of mobile phone sold in Japan. The problem is that they are SIM-locked to Japan's Foma network. This means if you take your Docomo phone outside of Japan and insert a SIM card from a different network, the phone will present you with an error message rather than booting up. The only way to unlock a Docomo phone is by using a hypersim kit to trick the phone's programming. This is actually a lot easier than it sounds.

Obtain a hypersim kit that is made for your model of Docomo phone. HyperSIM.net is a reliable source that specializes in hypersim kits for a variety of Japanese phones. They should have a hypersim available for any Docomo phone model.

Prepare the hypersim. Use a pair of scissors to cut the corner off of the hypersim where marked. The hypersim is a small card the size of your SIM card, and will clearly be marked with the area to cut away. Removing this area allows the phone access to the chip on your SIM card, while still covering most of the body of the chip.

Remove your old SIM card from the Docomo phone. Turn the phone off, open the back cover of the phone and remove the battery pack. With the batteries out of the way, you can eject the old SIM card from the phone.

Add your new SIM card, with hypersim, to the Docomo phone. The SIM card should be positioned on top of the hypersim as it is placed into the phone's SIM tray. With the card inserted, replace the battery pack and put the cover back on the phone.

Power on the phone. The phone will boot up completely and be powered by the mobile service of the telephone company that provided the new SIM card. The hypersim fools the phone into thinking a Foma SIM card is still inserted, while still giving you access to the critical areas of your card.
