How to Upgrade Memory on an HP 1115NR

The HP Mini 1115NR is a small, low-cost laptop computer referred to as a netbook. The Mini 1115NR includes an Intel Atom processor and has a screen that is upgradeable to 2 GB. Although the panel covering the memory socket for this netbook is on the bottom of the computer -- as it is with most laptops -- the method for opening the panel involves going through the battery compartment, which may be something new for those who have upgraded the memory for a laptop in the past.
    • 1

Shut the Mini 1115NR down, close the screen and disconnect all cables. Turn the laptop over.

    • 2

Push the two plastic tabs next to the battery toward the middle of the Mini 1115NR. One of the tabs locks into place when pushed. Hold the tab that does not remain in place on its own, and lift the battery pack out of the bottom of the computer.

    • 3

Place the flat-head screwdriver into the small opening on the edge of the Mini 1115NR battery compartment. The opening is next to the rectangular memory module cover. Push the screwdriver gently toward the outside of the computer. When this is done correctly, the memory module cover lifts up.

    • 4

      Remove the memory module cover.

    • 5

Pry the metal clips on the sides of the Mini 1115NR memory module apart, until the module lifts out of the socket. Note the angle of the module.

    • 6

Remove the module, and replace it with the larger memory module. This is done so that the new module rests on top of the metal clips as the old one did, and the metal contacts on the bottom of the module are inside the socket.

    • 7

Pivot the top part of the new Mini 1115NR memory module down until the clips snap around it.

    • 8

Replace the memory module cover and battery.
