A superintendent supervisor is a representative of the contractor who is accountable for activities like field supervision, coordination and work completion. Apart from these fundamental responsibilities, there are some safety duties. Drafting accident reports, providing safety training and ensuring strict adherence to safety rules are other responsibilities.
Safety Manual

In a safety manual, there are company policies, procedures and rules relating to employee safety. How the supervisor implements safety measures on the job floor depends on these safety manuals. Supervisors should know these safety rules and policies and ensure the employees are aware of the same through training and education programs.
Individual Responsibility

The supervisor must ensure employees are aware of their individual responsibilities. Some employees may not realize on-the-job safety is imperative to their own jobs. Some may feel that they are accountable only for their job and assume that accidents and mishaps during work are the management's duties alone. Hence, the supervisor must ensure safety awareness is spread among employees. Some individual responsibilities would be wearing seat belts, safety glasses, wearing a hard hat and checking equipment for defects.
Ask For Resources

Supervisors must ensure that they get the appropriate safety resources from management. The resources are needed to implement the company's vision for safety of its employees. The resources could be money, material or human resources. All of these would be necessary to tackle work-related hazards like slick floors and damaged equipment.
Handling Situations

If there is a mishap -- despite the implementation of safety measures -- the supervisor is expected to restore order and arrange medical attention immediately. The supervisor must also inform the family of the injured or deceased employee about the situation.
