How to Use No-CD Patches

As the name indicates, a "No-CD" patch allows the user to run software that would normally require the CD to function. In most cases, this is a computer game or similar program that requires the CD as a security measure against piracy. However, many people who own the software prefer the option to keep their CD drive free. Patches are widely available from many sites and are simple to install.
    • 1

Open the "No-CD" patch file folder. Most patches come with an EXE file and one or more additional files, usually REG files.

    • 2

Open the "C:" drive and navigate to the software's file folder under "Program Files."

    • 3

Locate the EXE file in the software folder that has the same name as the EXE file included in patch folder. Rename the EXE file in the software folder to filename2.exe. This keeps the original file intact for backup purposes.

    • 4

Copy the EXE file from the patch folder into the software folder.

    • 5

Repeat the previous steps with the other files in the patch folder.

    • 6

Launch the software from the start menu or desktop icon without the CD in the CD-ROM drive. The software will run normally if all of the patch files were copied correctly.
