How to Use Simple Green to Remove Automotive Paint

Automotive paint can get transferred to several different types of surfaces such as clothes, towels, carpets, and floors. Simple Green is a product known to remove a multitude of different types of stains---and automotive paint is no exception. Simple Green became available in 1972 and in 1981 was distributed in hardware, grocery and drug stores, eventually increasing to worldwide distribution. Absorb as much of the automotive paint as you can with a dry cloth or paper towel, preferably white. When the paint is still wet it is easier to remove, leaving a smaller amount of the spill to clean.

Dampen the area with a sponge dipped in cold water and continue to blot up the paint. Repeat this several times until most of the paint is removed from the surface. Be careful with the water as the amount you use depends on the surface you're cleaning.

Scrub the area with a wire brush or stiff bristle brush using more cold water and dab dry with paper towels. Do not use this type of brush on delicate fabrics.

Test a small area of the surface that you are going to use Simple Green on to ensure the area will not be damaged by removing the color or harming the material. Simple Green is known as environmentally safe; however, it is always a good idea to test a small surface area before applying any type of paint/stain remover.

Spray Simple Green on the area---no need to dilute---and continue with the stiff bristle brush or other type of cleansing cloth to remove the remaining paint.

Blot dry with clean towels or paper towels. This is a powerful formula made to remove tough stains, including paint.
