I Have Vista & My HP OfficeJet V40 Won't Fax

The HP OfficeJet V40 is an all-in-one printer, copier and fax machine. When your HP OfficeJet V40 won't fax, there could be something wrong with your setup. Before you have your printer serviced, you might want to try to troubleshoot the fax issue yourself. The fax line might not being hooked up to the right output, or there may be a different technical issue that can be fixed easily.

      Plug the phone cord that came with the HP OfficeJet into the "1-Line" port on the back. If it is plugged into the "2-EXT" line, it will not fax.

      Plug any phones, answering machines or modems into the "2-EXT" port and disable any voice mail services on the line.

      Check over the phone cord you are using to make sure there are no breaks or tears in the line. Replace the phone cord if needed.

      Make sure the phone line works.

      Test the phone line with a working phone.

    Perform Semi-Full Reset

      Turn on the HP OfficeJet and then unplug the power cord from the back of the device.

      Press down the "#" key and keys "1-6" on the control panel.

      Plug the power cord back into the device.

      Wait 5 seconds and then release all of the keys.

      Follow the prompts on the front of the OfficeJet to restore its functionality.
