Ideas for Frugal Families to Make Extra Money

    • Frugal families work hard to cut corners. They often do without luxuries that most people take for granted. Frugal families understand that things like designer clothes and big screen televisions aren't necessary. Their sacrifice is worth it when the money goes to something more important, such as medical expenses or education. If you belong to a frugal family, it's possible to bring more money into the household.

    Reduce Spending

    • One of the easiest ways to bring extra money into the home may be to spend less of what you have. Woman's Day reports most families have no idea how much they spend on a daily basis. If you keep a record of every single purchase your family makes, the total will probably shock you. Keep track of every expense, no matter how small. After a week or two, look at your records to see what you can eliminate. If you drink Starbucks every morning, consider making coffee at home. If your kids buy snacks at school, consider buying them a box of snacks that will be cheaper per unit. The money you save is equal to bringing extra money into the home.

    Sell Old Clothes

    • Each member of your family probably has clothing they never wear. The clothing may include items they've outgrown or just don't want anymore. Instead of letting old, unwanted clothes clutter up the closet, sell them. If an item hasn't been worn in a year or longer, it's safe to say no one wants it. Check your area for consignment shops. These shops will buy your clothes or sell them for you and split the profits.

    Have a Family Fundraiser

    • Schools aren't the only organizations that can have fundraisers. Families have fundraisers for all kinds of reasons. They might need money for a vacation, family reunion or some other important event. Some families hold garage sales, sell candy or wash cars. You and your kids can even mow lawns for neighbors. If you have any doubts, check with your local police department to make sure your planned activities are legal.

    Auction Sales

    • According to MSN Money, it's not uncommon to make a part-time income selling items online at auction sites like eBay. Most people start by selling old household items they no longer need or want. You can even purchase low-cost items at thrift stores or yard sales and sell them for a profit online. Check eBay to see what type of items are popular. If you're not careful, you could end up with something no one wants to purchase.
