Installation Guide for Bilstein Shock Absorbers

The shocks on your vehicle should be replaced every 75,000 miles. They ensure that the vehicle handles and rides as it should. When your shocks need replacement, you can replace them with aftermarket units. Bilstein produces shocks for almost any type of vehicle. You will need to verify the make, model and year of your vehicle when you purchase them to ensure a correct fit.
    • 1

Apply the parking brake from inside the vehicle.

    • 2

Place a tire iron onto each lug nut and break them free off one of the tires.

    • 3

Slide a jack under the vehicle at its jacking point and lift it high enough to remove the tire.

    • 4

Remove the lug nuts and pull the tire off the axle.

    • 5

Remove the bolts that secure the stock shocks to the brackets on the vehicle with a ratchet and socket. Grasp the shock and pull it out of the brackets. You may need to push down on the top of the shock with your hand to compress it enough to remove.

    • 6

Install the Bilstein shock into the brackets on the vehicle. Align the mounting holes in the shock with the mounting holes in the brackets so that the bolts can be inserted into each bracket. Thread the nuts onto the bolts and tighten them with the ratchet and socket.

    • 7

Reinstall the tire onto the hub. Thread the lug nuts onto the wheel studs and use the tire iron to tighten them.

    • 8

Lower the vehicle to the ground with the jack.

    • 9

Repeat the above steps to replace the remaining shocks on the vehicle with Bilstein shocks.
