Interior Decorating for Hospitals

As an interior decorator, you may be asked to design looks for a number of different spaces. Decorating for a hospital can be challenging, but keeping the patients and the nature of the establishment in mind can help you come up with a beautiful design scheme.
  • Significance

    • It's important to think about the significance of the room you're decorating when choosing colors and accent items. For instance, if you're designing a hospital waiting room, using shades of blue is ideal because the color represents calm and will help to ease the minds of family members who are waiting to hear a health report on a loved one. Synthetic flowers potted in silver or bronze pots adds a touch of elegance that will also make people feel at home.

    Types

    • The type of hospital you're decorating for should determine your overall design plan. If you're adorning the outpatient rooms of children's hospitals, murals featuring images of teddy bears or balloons is ideal. These pictures can help to make a child feel more at ease in the room and makes the space more appealing. Using colors like yellow or orange in hospital rooms is also a great idea; these colors denote brightness and joy.

    Considerations

    • Talk to contractors or administrators about adding special accents to the room that may not be common in other establishments. For instance, design an elaborate arrangement of synthetic flowers for inpatient rooms, and include cards with messages like "Get Well Soon" or "Thinking of You." It's also a good idea to paint inspiration words on the walls or use wall hangings to display sentiments like hope, health and faith in the hospital rooms and waiting areas.
