Kenmore Electric Self-Cleaning Stove Instructions

Sears Kenmore makes several electric self-cleaning combination stove-and-oven models. While large stove top and oven spills have to be cleaned up by hand, the Kenmore self cleaning cycle cleans the oven completely without the use of any harsh chemical oven cleaners. You can use kitchen soap and a sponge for touch-up cleanings between using the self-cleaning feature.

Let the oven cool to room temperature. Remove the oven racks, broiler pan, utensils and any foil that has been left in the oven. You can leave the oven racks in place if you like, but repeated self cleaning cycles may make them harder to slide in and out of the oven.

Use kitchen soap and a sponge to remove any soil on the stove, bottom of the oven, around the door gasket area and on the outer oven door. Rinse these areas well with clear water and dry them with paper towels. Do not scrub directly on the oven gasket, as it can fall apart with repeated scrubbings.

Press "Clean" on the Kenmore oven's control display. The display will light up with a "4," meaning that the cleaning cycle lasts four hours. Press the "up" arrow to change the cleaning time to five hours for a more-soiled oven; press the "down" arrow to change the cleaning time to three hours for a less-soiled oven.

Press "Delay Start Time" on the oven's control display to start the self-cleaning cycle at a later time. Use the up and down arrows to set the start time. Press the "Clear Off" button if you want to cancel a self-cleaning cycle.

Press "Start." "Door Locked" will light up on the oven control display. The oven door will unlock, and "Door Locked" will disappear from the oven control display when the self-cleaning cycle is complete. Wipe up any white ash on the bottom of the oven with a sponge. Remove the racks if you left them in the oven, and use paper towels to coat them with vegetable oil to slide them in and out of the oven more easily. Put the racks, broiler pan and any other utensils back in the oven.
