Causes
-
Countries that lack proper farming equipment do so because they cannot afford to manufacture or purchase this equipment. The majority of the farms are small and family owned and cannot purchase tools and machinery used in mass production.
Food Shortages
-
The lack of farming equipment has a direct correlation to the amount of food a farm is able to produce. In many third world countries, farms are unable to produce enough food to feed the growing populations.
The Future
-
Scientists are encouraging third world countries to use genetically altered crops. These crops are more resistant to drought, and some strands do not require the use of pesticides. The strands are easier to grow and require farmers to produce higher yields without spending as much capital.
