Oil test equipment in a petroleum plant is used in determining the dielectric strength of insulation oils. Petroleum oil is often used as an insulating substance in electrical devices such as transformers and switchgear apparatus. Electrical properties of oil usually change as a result of degradation emanating from acids, oxidation, water, sludge and gas absorption. Oil test equipment is used to establish these changes through processes such as a dielectric strength test.
Oil Analyzers
-
Oil analyzer equipments include EMC test equipment, impedance analyzers and network analyzers with a varying frequency (up to 10GHz). Others are spectrum analyzers with a typical frequency range of 1 to 13 GHz and accompanying spectrum and network accessories. These include couplers, bridges, cables, down-converters, amplifiers and attenuators. Other oil test equipment used as analyzers are vector signal analyzers and waveform and distortion analyzers.
Oil Test Counters
-
Oil test equipment utilized as counters include microwave counters, modulation domain analyzers and universal and multi-function counters. Microwave counters regulate the apparatus frequency to common baseband frequency range. The modulation domain analyzers help in measuring peak-to-peak modulation in oil test processes. In addition, they also help in establishing deviation, pilot carrier frequency, modulation rate, detector switching time and switching time intervals. Universal and multi-function counters on the other hand are used for serial, repetitive and general frequency events. They assist in accumulating a series of oil test events over a preset period.
Electrical and Industrial Oil Test Equipment
-
Electrical and industrial oil test equipment include battery test equipment, cable locator and cable finder, circuit breaker test sets, environmental test chambers, ground resistance testers, high-potential testers, infrared imagers, insulation-resistance testers, low resistance ohmmeters, power factor test sets and power quality/demand analyzers. Other electrical and industrial oil test equipment are protective relay test sets and transformer testers.
General Purpose Oil Test Equipment
-
General purpose oil test equipment include detectors, microwave amplifiers, general purpose amplifiers, variable attenuators, fixed attenuators, directional couplers and power splitters.
Logic Analyzers
-
According to TRS-RenTelco.com, logic analyzer equipment used in oil testing include logic analyzer mainframes and cards, portable as well as stand-alone logic analyzers. Other equipment include probes and accessories utilized alongside logic analyzers.
Protocol Analyzers
-
Protocol analyzers utilized in oil testing include Bluetooth protocol analyzers, fiber channel protocol analyzers and PCI/PCI Express protocol analyzers. Other protocol analyzer oil test equipment include SAS/SATA protocol analyzers, USB protocol analyzers and UWB analyzers.
