Drive away from tall trees and buildings, and out of parking garages. These obstructions may prevent the device from receiving a satellite signal.
- 2
Purchase a TomTom External Antenna Kit if your vehicle uses heat reflective shielding in its windshield. This shielding may prevent the GPS from acquiring a signal.
- 3
Download the TomTom HOME software (see Resources), and connect the GPS to your computer with a USB cable. This software downloads satellite position information for the next seven days, and transfers this data to your GPS. This information may help the GPS find a signal.

My TomTom Can't Get a Satellite Fix
TomTom's line of GPS navigational products are designed to help drivers locate destinations across the country. These devices also include Bluetooth hands-free calling, traffic information, a music player and a large points of interest database. TomTom devices provide directions by locking onto a satellite signal. There may be several reasons if your TomTom cannot locate a signal. The device must be moved away from tall obstructions, and must not be placed on a windshield covered with heat reflective shielding.
