Enroll in and pass the 36-hour broker's course from an approved Wisconsin school (see Resources). There are two exemptions from the brokers course requirement--first, lawyers who are members of the Wisconsin State Bar Association are exempt. Also, if you have at least 20 semester hours of college credit in real estate or real estate law at an accredited institution, you are exempt, according to the Wisconsin Department of Regulation and Licensing. In addition, applicants who are not lawyers and do not currently hold a real estate salesperson license must complete the 72-hour salesperson education requirement as well. If you currently hold a broker's license in another state, you can be exempt from the education requirements if you provide proof of the education requirements. Out-of-state licensed brokers who have not completed the college education requirements can satisfy the educational requirements for licensing by taking 16 hours of education training as opposed to the standard 108 hours.

After completion of the exam, you will immediately find out your results, and if you pass, you will receive a Wisconsin Application for New Salesperson or Broker License.

Submit your broker application to the Wisconsin Department of Regulation and Licensing within one year of your exam date. Submit the application via mail, fax or in person. The initial application fee is $75, and you must also submit a certificate verifying that you have completed the educational requirements.
