Defeat Medusa during the siege of Athens. As the fight with this boss progresses a mini-game initiates in which Kratos, like Perseus before him, ultimately beheads the Gorgon. This unlocks the "Medusa's Gaze" attack for Kratos.

Refuse the in-game tutorial by using Poseidon's Rage instead of Medusa's Gaze to defeat the minotaurs. Since this is a "training" section Kratos is granted infinite magic and the enemies will continue to spawn until the tutorial is fulfilled. Continue using Poseidon's Rage to create enormous combos and collect experience points. The unlimited experience allows Kratos to max out his abilities far earlier than he should.

"God of War" Cheats: How to Get New Powers
Acquiring new powers is one of the major plot developments throughout the "God of War" video game series on the PlayStation 2. Powers such as "Zeus' Fury" and "Poseidon's Rage" are handed down by their mythological namesakes, while another, "Medusa's Gaze," is a reward for defeating the specific figure. While new powers can only be gained through successfully progressing in the game, these powers may be used as a cheat for easy and early experience points to max out all magic, weapons and skills.
