Characteristics
-
Periwinkles bloom in small blue flowers in the spring. They are ideal for shady areas and will trail elegantly over the sides of a hanging container.
Considerations
-
Periwinkle seeds should be sown directly into their permanent location in the garden after the danger of frost has passed. When grown in the shade, the periwinkle's color is richer. Grown in the sun, you will have more, less intensely colored flowers.
Planting
-
Plant the seeds 6 inches apart if you are growing the periwinkle as a groundcover. This will provide a complete carpet within one year.
