Plants That Mean Friendship

    • People around the world have been using symbolism since ancient times. Tattoo graphics, friendship bracelets and interlocking hearts convey the message of how people feel about others. Plants and flowers carry special meanings, and some of them can convey positive feelings toward friends. To help celebrate a friend's birthday, a special occasion like a graduation or just to say thank you for being my friend, consider giving a plant that means friendship.

    Jade Plant

    • The jade plant is associated with China and is considered a lucky plant. It is used in the practice of feng shui, which dictates that the correct placement of objects can improve health and prosperity. The dark-green leaves of the jade plant represent the joy and energy of friendship. The pink and white flowers emit a sweet aroma, making it ideal as a gift to a friend. Another property of the jade plant is its ability to propagate from the leaf of the plant. By simply planting a leaf of your jade plant in another pot and giving it to your friend, you can both own part of the same plant, symbolizing your friendship.

    Yellow Roses

    • While red roses are widely known as symbols of love, yellow roses are symbolic of friendship. The warm, sunny color in a bouquet of yellow roses brings out warm feelings associated with the joy of friendship. The color yellow has been associated with the sun throughout history, evoking feelings of joy, wisdom and well-being. Sending yellow roses in friendship is a way to brighten a friend's day. It can also mean that you are strengthening your bond with a friend, and if you are in a relationship with that person, yellow roses can send a signal that you are ready to kick the relationship up a notch.

    Chrysanthemums

    • The chrysanthemum has a long history and is associated with many myths and symbols. The center and petals resemble a daisy and the flowers come in a range of colors including the original yellow color, white and red. Chrysanthemums are associated with the Japanese culture, where there is a yearly Festival of Happiness celebrating the flower, and where they are traditionally used as a friendship gift. The growth of the flower is indicative of the growth of friendship between people.
