Identification
-
A lawn grub is an immature beetle. Measuring 1 inch in length and shaped like the letter "C," grubs resemble white worms or caterpillars.
Symptoms
-
Grubs feed on grass roots. If you notice irregularly shaped dead patches in the lawn, dig up the dead grass to check for grubs underneath.
Solution
-
Use an insecticide to kill lawn grubs. Master gardeners with the University of Illinois Cooperative Extension recommend diazinon or trichlorfon. They recommend that the insecticide be applied at the first sign of grubs to prevent a larger infestation.
