How to Troubleshoot an ATI Mobility Radeon X1400

AMD's Mobility Radeon X1400 graphics card is designed for use in laptop computers, and comes pre-installed in certain models. If the graphics card exhibits problems, users can troubleshoot the device by updating the software to a newer version, or reinstalling an older, more stable driver. Note that the Mobility X1400 is a DirectX 9 generation device, and is not compatible with DirectX 10 and 11 features. Using the device with games and software designed for these newer features may result in display errors and other problems, and troubleshooting the device will not resolve these base compatibility issues.
  • Update Drivers

    • 1

Open a Web browser and navigate to the AMD website. Click on "Support and Drivers."

    • 2

Search for "Mobility Radeon X1400" in the Graphics Cards -- Notebooks category, or make the appropriate selections in the sequential drop-down menus to locate the specific product. Choose your operating system and download the newest version of the driver files.

    • 3

Run the downloaded file to place the new driver on the hard drive. This may require a system restart.

    Roll Back Drivers

    • 1

Open the Control Panel and select "Administrative Tools." Double click on "Computer Management."

    • 2

Expand the System Tools section and click on "Device Manager." Expand the Display Drivers option in the list and double-click on the Radeon device.

    • 3

Click the "Roll Back Driver" button in the Driver tab to restore the driver to its previous state. If a recent update has caused the malfunction, this option will return the device to working order.
