Hard economic times or unexpected emergencies often put a squeeze on finances. Getting cash to cover the expenses may be difficult if you do not have excellent credit or your credit lines are maxed out. There are other ways to get money quickly by using a bit of ingenuity, hard work or using technology.
Garage Sale
-
Sell everything from your home except what is necessary if you need cash quickly. Furniture, collectibles, electronics that work, children's clothing and other items sell quickly at yard sales. Typically, the only cost involved for you is to get a garage sale permit, if necessary, and some poster board to make signs advertising your sale.
Internet Auctions
-
Sell items on Internet auction sites or a site that allows you to list your items for free. These types of sites allow you to place your item for sell and for others to bid on it or to buy it outright if you post a fixed or buy-it-now price. You can do auctions for 1 to 10 days or leave them up for months at a time depending on the venue.
Part-Time Job
-
Getting a temporary part-time job is an effective way to get some extra cash in your pockets. It may be as simple as seeing a "Help Wanted" sign in a store window and letting them know you are available immediately for work, or it may require a bit of ingenuity. If you have a talent, such as in carpentry or organizational skills, offer your services to your neighbors, friends and relatives. Tell them to spread the word to their friends and co-workers. If you know of a senior citizen in your area, offer to transport him or her to doctor's visits, the grocery store or other places that the person's relatives may have to take off work to do. If you have outdoor skills, such as landscaping or painting, drive around neighborhoods to see if you can offer your services to homeowners with unkempt lawns or peeling paint on their home exteriors. Take in sewing, babysitting or a multitude of other skills that many people require.
Selling Vehicles
-
Sell your car, motorcycle or boat. Often, having a second car is not necessary in a household, as the homeowners can ride together or carpool with other people. This cuts down on another payment and you get the money for the vehicle. Luxury recreational items sell quickly just by placing an ad in the local newspaper, or posting a sign on the item or a bulletin board in a busy area.
