Rules for Safety Railing for Concert Stages

    • Live music concerts with tens of thousands of people require certain amounts of security in order to keep people from rushing the stage and harming themselves, the performers or the equipment. This is primarily done with security personnel and safety railings that restrict the access crowds have to certain areas. There are precautions that should be taken when setting up these safety railings so they are effective and do not cause a larger problem.

    Placed Back From Stage

    • Safety railings should be placed a certain distance from the stage, so that it will be more difficult for those from the crowd to climb up onto the stage and disturb the performance. This space can range in distance depending on the venue and the size of the crowd, but it should at least be wide enough for security personnel to stand and keep people from climbing the security barrier. Security personnel should also watch the people against the security railing and band together to pull someone out if they are being crushed.

    Connected Together

    • It is important for concert safety railings to be solid and connected together so that they make an actual barrier. When a panic or rush occurs, a collapsing wall will cause people to be trapped under or on top of it and often lead to a stampede, which can lead to serious injury or death. If these metal safety fence and railings are connected together and connected to the ground, they will not collapse easily. People will just be pushed against it, giving them the opportunity to climb out over the railing or be pulled over by security personnel.

    Solid Railings

    • Safety railings at concerts should also be solid pieces of metal, with maybe a few small holes throughout them for aeration purposes. While older concert railings used to be chain link or bars with larger openings, these are quickly being replaced by responsible concert security staffs, as arms and legs can be caught between these bars in the event of a panic and grotesquely broken. These solid metal fronts of the security railings also make it easier for concert goers to climb out of the crowd in the event of a panic.
