Youth Christian Activities

  • Balancing the Faith

    • Play this game to help the kids memorize the different sections of the Bible. First, gather up two long logs that the whole of your group can stand on. Write down the names of as many books from both the Old Testament and the New Testament as you have players onto separate slips of paper. Books such as "Genesis," "Paul" and "Matthew" work well. Divide the group into two teams. Have each team stand up on one of the logs single-file. Then, hand each player a paper with a name of a book from the Bible on it. Tell the teams they both have to try and arrange themselves according to the order in which the books appear in the Bible. Players may talk to each other, but they cannot fall off the log or the other team automatically wins. The first team to correctly organize themselves wins the game.

    True or False Chase

    • See how well the players can remember their Christian lessons with this game. Start by dividing the players into two groups, True and False. Separate the play area by placing a long rope in the middle of the space. Have the teams assume either side of the rope and line up directly behind the rope on their respective sides. To start, say something either true or false about Christianity. Examples include "Jesus was born in Bethlehem" (true) and "Adam lived in the Garden of Fruit" (false). If what you said was false, the False team chases the True team toward the end of their side of the space, tagging players as they go. If you said a true statement, the reverse happens. Once the players have made it to the end of their side, they are safe. Any players tagged before then join the enemy team. Continue playing for several rounds, ending the game once all of the players have ended up on one team.

    Trust and Faith

    • Show your youth group how faith can pull them through a crisis with this activity. Start by blindfolding all of the participants except one. Line everyone up into a single-file line, leaving the person without a blindfold to become the leader of this line. Tell everyone to hold onto the person's shoulders in front of them. Then, let the leader lead the followers around an obstacle course. The followers have to learn to trust that everything will be alright if they just have faith in their leader, or faith in God. Let everyone have a turn leading the others so everyone can see what it is like to trust in the leader.
