Saab SeaEye Falcon Specs

    • Saab Seaeye Limited has been specializing in the manufacture of underwater remotely operated vehicles, or ROVs, since 1986. In 2010, the company offered nine different ROV options, the most basic of which was the Seaeye Falcon. According to Saab's brochure, the Falcon is "lightweight and portable" enough to operate "inshore, offshore, down tunnels, or for flyaway operations." It comes in both the standard and DR models.

    Standard Falcon

    • The standard Falcon's has the ability to move at greater than 3 knots, comes equipped with magnetically coupled DC thrusters and has a single-phase system input with a voltage of 100 to 270 VAC and a frequency of 50 to 60 Hz. It is capable of working at up to 300 meters in depth with an umbilical chord of 450 meters. It is equipped with variable intensity 150-watt lighting. Weighing in at 55 kg, it measures 1,000 mm in length, 600 mm in width, and 500 mm in height and can maintain a payload of up to 60 kg. It also comes equipped with a navigational system with depth sensor and compass.

    Falcon DX

    • This upgraded model features many of the same engineering specs as the standard Falcon. Upgraded features include a depth measurement of 1,000 meters, a 1,100-meter umbilical length, tilting variable intensity lights on the camera and an F2 fiber optic video and data transmission system.

    Camera Specs

    • Both the standard Falcon and the Falcon DX come equipped with a color, fixed-focus camera. The camera can capture images with as little as 1.25 foot-candles of light, has a 91-degree horizontal field of view and has an image resolution of 480. It also has a wide-angle, 3.8 mm lens and tilt capabilities of 90 degrees in two directions.

    Other Options

    • Optional features include a hand or electronic winch, LED lights, the addition of a third light, an image scaling system, a jaw manipulator, a tracking system, sonar capabilities, a wire rope cutter and a cleaning brush.
