Zire 71 Specifications

    • The Palm Zire 71 is a handheld personal digital assistant released by the Palm company in April 2003. The Palm Zire 71 was an upgrade to the original Zire handheld with several improvements, including a color display screen, an integrated digital camera and increased onboard memory. The Zire 71 originally retailed for $299, according to Cnet Reviews. Although no longer supported by the company, it continues to be popular with consumers, and used devices are readily found for purchase online.

    Design

    • The Palm Zire 71 weighs 5.3 ounces. It is 4.5 inches long and 2.9 inches wide. It is .67 of an inch thick. It has a semi-shiny metallic blue-gray body. It has four application buttons and a 5-way navigation button that resembles a joystick.

    Processor and Memory

    • The Palm Zire 71 has a 144 megahertz Texas Instruments OMAP processor and operates on the Palm OS 5.2.1. An original Palm Zire 71 came equipped with 16 MB of memory and has an expansion slot for an SD memory card.

    Digital Camera

    • The Palm Zire 71 included an integrated digital camera that captures still images in three resolution settings: 160 by 120, 320 by 240 and 640 by 480 pixels. Images are captured and stored as JPEGs. The camera includes automatic exposure and four automatic white balance exposures -- Auto, Fluorescent, indoors and sunlight -- but does not include a flash.

    Connectivity

    • The Palm Zire 71 offers irDA infrared connectivity but does not include wireless capabilities. It also comes with the Palm Universal Connector (USB).

    Battery

    • The Palm Zire 71 is powered by a rechargeable 900mAh lithion-ion battery. It includes a AC 120 V power adapter for recharging. The rechargeable battery is not removable.

    Software

    • The Palm Zire 71 comes preinstalled with an address book, date book, to-do list, Adobe Acrobat Reader for Palm, Graffiti 2, Palm Photos, Palm Reader, Kinoma Video Player and RealOne Mobile Player for MP3 playback.
