Snow Shoe Trails in Indian Lake, New York

    • Indian Lake, New York, is located in the center of the Adirondack Park, which is northeast of Syracuse, New York. This area is active all year 'round, but during December through beginning of March it is thriving with snowshoe hikers, aside from the skiers, ice skaters and ice fishermen. The trails are challenging due to the number of hills and mountains. Snowshoeing can be fun for the novice or the experienced individual.

    Puffer Pond and Twin Pond Trails

    • Puffer Pond is the first pond that you will encounter on this trail. You can choose to only go around this pond or continue to Twin Pond. If you decide to continue, then pack your back for an overnight camping experience. Both trails will take you about six hours to complete. The length of the trail is 6.5 miles. This is a difficult course for beginners and will give the experienced snowshoe individual a challenging workout.

    Snowy Mountain Trail

    • Snowy Mountain is one of the highest mountains in the Adirondack's range. The trail starts at the bottom of the mountain and continues to the top. The elevation of the trail is minimal, with a trail length of 7.5 miles. It will take approximately six hours to complete the trail. With the elevation and mountain ruggedness, this course is rated as difficult.

    Clear Pond Trail

    • Clear Pond is one of the easier courses in the Indian Lake area. The trail begins in a residential location and continues to a pond. The trail is also short consisting of only 2.5 miles. This trail allows you to get a quick workout in outside in the snow. It should only take one to two hours to complete.

    Whortleberry Pond Trail

    • The Whortleberry Pond trail is in the Adirondack mountains. It is a challenging course and is more suitable for a more experienced snowshoe individual. This course is challenging due to its steep areas. The trail begins 7 miles east of Indian Lake.
