Tutorial for Corel Paintshop

Paintshop Photo Pro is a professional level graphics and photo-editing program offered by the Corel corporation. It has many tools and functions, and its complexity can be a bit intimidating to the new user. One of the best ways to learn about some of the basic functions is to carry out a simple project, such as preparing a photo for use on a website. This project is fairly simple. It is valuable if you want to make website. One of the most important things you can do when creating a site is to make sure your images are optimized for the web, making the pages load faster. It will also familiarize you with some of the menus and tools of Paintshop Photo Pro.

  Load the image that you want to edit onto your computer, either by transferring it from a digital source or by using a scanner.

  Click of the Paintshop Photo Pro shortcut on your desktop to start the program. In the dialog that appears, Click on the "Full Editor" tab on the upper right.

  Select "File" from the menu and choose "Open." In the dialog that appears, locate the file the you loaded in step 1 and open it.

  Select the "Crop" tool from the toolbar of the left. Use the mouse to adjust the sides of the crop box to select the area that you want to use for the website and click "Enter." This will crop the image.

  Select "Image" from the menu and choose "Resize." In the dialog that appears, change the resolution to 72 pixels per inch. Change the "Pixel Dimensions" from "Percent" to "Pixels." Enter the width and height you want for the image on the web. Click "OK."

  Select "File" and choose "Export." From the options, choose either "GIF," "JPEG," or "PNG." GIF is best for images that don't need photographic quality. Use JPEG for photos. Use "PNG" when you have a transparent section that you want to preserve.

  Go with the default settings that appear, adjust the "Compression" value until you like the preview and click "OK." In the dialog that appears, name your file and save it.
