Winamp Playlists Compatible With Zune

    • Winamp is a free media-playing software capable of connecting and managing various devices. One such device is the Microsoft-produced Zune portable media player. However, the Zune software can only support one of the three playlist types that Winamp can create.

    .m3u File Type

    • The m3u file type was originally used only by Winamp but has since become a widely used playlist type. It contains only textual data that points to a location of the media. Both audio and video media files can both be directed to by the playlist. It is also the only playlist type produced by Winamp that Zune software supports.

    .m3u8 File Type

    • The m3u8 and the m3u file types are roughly the same thing. However what makes m3u8 different is that it supports "UTF-8 Unicode," a type of encoding method. However, Zune software does not recognize the playlist type. Open the file in Winamp and save it as an m3u file to use it with your Zune.

    .pls File Type

    • The pls file type also does not hold any actual media, but points software in the direction of the files. However, it does not support video media and does not work with Zune software. Open the file in Winamp and save it as an m3u file to use it with your Zune.
