Chevrolet produced a performance variant of the C5 generation Corvette called the Z06 from 2001 to 2004. The C5 Corvette did not receive the ZR1 treatment that its C4 predecessor was granted, so the Z06 was the highest-performance Corvette offered during the nameplate's fifth generation. The 2005 model year saw the introduction of the sixth-generation C6 Corvette, with the Z06 performance package being released a year later. This trim level would remain the highest-performance Corvette model until the release of the ZR1 C6 in 2009.

    Engine

    • The 2007 C6-bodied Z06 is powered by General Motors' naturally aspirated LS7 motor. This 7.0L V-8 engine has a 16-valve OHV design with a 4.13-inch bore and 4.00-inch stroke and a compression ratio of 11 to 1. This high-displacement engine generates 505 horsepower at 6,300 rpm and 470 foot-pounds of torque at 4,800 rpm. The Z06's LS7 engine offers an increase of 105 horsepower and 70 foot-pounds of torque over the base model's 6.0L LS2 V-8.

    External Dimensions

    • The Corvette Z06 has a curb weight of 3,132 pounds and sits on a wheelbase measuring 105.7 inches. This vehicle's wide stance and agility are aided by its 63.5-inch front track and 62.5-inch rear track. The body of this two-door sports car is 165.6 inches long, 75.9 inches wide and a mere 49 inches in height.

    Interior Dimensions

    • The Corvette Z06 keeps with the storied nameplate's tradition of only offering seating for two. The cabin of this sports car provides its occupants with 37.9 inches of headroom, 43.1 inches of legroom, 55.2 inches of shoulder room and 53.6 inches of hip room. The trunk of this car offers 22.4 cubic feet of cargo volume.

    Performance

    • The 2007 Corvette Z06's combination of 7.0L V-8 engine and six-speed manual transmission--automatic is not an option on this performance-minded iteration of the C6 Corvette--runs through the quarter mile in 12 seconds at 121.8 mph. This vehicle is able to accelerate from zero to 45 mph in just 2.8 seconds while posting a zero-to-60 mph time of 4.1 seconds and accelerating from a stop to 75 mph in 5.4 seconds. Braking from 60 mph to a stop takes just 106 feet.

    Fuel Economy

    • The Z06's combination of 7.0L V-8 engine and six-speed manual gearbox yields 16 mpg city and 26 mpg highway, with fuel being drawn from an 18-gallon tank.
