Audio playback is accomplished through stereo MP3 decoding, with quality ranging from 30 to 320 kilobits per second. Compatible file types include CBR, VRB, WMA, Protected WMA and WAV. Audio is played through two built-in speakers.

The Archos 605 WiFi portable media player is capable of recording video through an optional DVR Station/DVR Travel adapter. Should the unit have this adapter, it records video in MPEG-4 AVI format at a resolution of 640 by 480 at either 25 or 30 frames per second. Accompanying audio is recorded with stereo sound.
Audio recording for the unit is through the same optional adapter through the stereo line-in.

The Archos 605 WiFi portable media player comes with a 30-, 80- or 160-gigabyte hard drive. The 160GB drive is reportedly capable of storing up to 200 movies, 1 million pictures or 95,000 songs. These are estimates only and will vary depending on actual file sizes of the stored media.

In addition to video and audio playback, the Archos 605 WiFi portable media player is capable of displaying other media. The unit can display Adobe PDF documents, though this display may be limited as the unit does not provide all available Adobe viewer features. Additionally, the unit can also display JPEG, BMP and PNG images.

The Archos 605 WiFi portable media player provides wireless connectivity via an 802.11g connection. The unit has a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack as well as a docking connector that may be used for the aforementioned DVR station or other available accessories.
