Army PT Badge Requirements

  • Test Information

    • The Army Physical Fitness Test has several sections that are scored from zero to 100. First, two minutes of push ups must be done. This is followed by two minutes of sit ups, and then concludes with a two-mile run. For those with a medical reason that they cannot do the run, there are alternate options. The options include a 800-yard swim, a 6.2-mile stationary or conventional bike ride, or a 2.5-mile walk. The soldier is given 10 to 20 minutes in between events to recover. It is required of all active Army, Army National Guard and Army Reserves.

    Scoring

    • Scoring standards differ by gender and age. For example, a woman will not be expected to do as many push ups as a man her age, and a younger man will be expected to perform better than an older man. The scoring reflects an adjustment to take that into account.

    Requirement for Badge

    • The PT badge is a dark blue badge in the shape of a circle with darker blue edges. The center has a gold human figure with its arms outstretched in front of a flag. This badge is awarded to soldiers who score a 270 or above out of the possible 300 points on the PT test. The badge can only be worn on the physical training uniform. Anyone who fails the test must retake the entire test again no later than three months from the initial test date.
