Police chiefs in the metropolitan area which includes Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska earned an average annual salary in May 2009 that was higher than in any other metropolitan area in the state except one, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

    • The average, or mean, wages for first-line supervisors and managers of police and detectives in May 2009 were $33.73 per hour or $70,170 annually in the Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area of Nebraska and Iowa, which includes Saunders County and its component Cedar Bluffs, according to the BLS. The salaries ranged from $57,760 or less for the lowest-paid 10 percent to $90,520 or more for the best-paid tenth of police supervisors and managers.

    Statewide

    • The Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area had the second-highest average salary for police supervisors and managers in May 2009, the BLS reports, with the Lincoln metropolitan area occupying top spot with an average annual salary of $82,540. The state average for first-line supervisors and managers of police and detectives was $30.61 per hour or $63,660 per year in May 2009.

    • Across the United States, the average wages for first-line supervisors and managers of police and detectives were $37.78 per hour or $78,580 annually in May 2009, BLS figures show. California, New Jersey, the District of Columbia, Nevada and Illinois were the highest-paying states and territories for this occupation, with average annual salaries between $91,000 and $120,000. The five highest-paying metropolitan areas were in California and had salaries ranging from $128,290 to $142,220.
