How2Day: BMW 3 Series Wheel Styles

The BMW 3 Series is the flagship of the luxury German automaker BMW. The 3 Series has been the most important part of the BMW lineup for some time. Currently, BMW offers a sedan, touring, cabriolet and coupe model in the 3 Series. You will have several different options from BMW when the time comes to choose your wheels.

The Brilliant Line style of wheels are available in 15 and 17-inch sizes. These are a cast-wheel made from the light-alloy construction used in most BMW wheels. The Brilliant Line wheels feature a central hub with holes of alternating size and a series of thin spokes radiating to the rim.

Double-spoke wheels are available in 16, 17, 18 and 19-inch styles. Available variations on the double-spoke include the 154, 156, 268, 88, 161, 79, 98, 71, M194, M68, M97, 125, 195 and M225.

Double-spoke wheels are available in a single or two-piece composite construction. The single-piece models are a cast light-alloy wheel. The two-piece composite wheels include a burnished rim flange that is attached to the wheel with titanium bolts.

The multi-spoke wheel option is available in the 282 or the 284 models. These are a 16 and 17-inch size respectively.

Radial-spoke wheels are available in 16 to 19-inch sizes. BMW offers ten different styles of radial-spoke wheel. Most are a single-piece, light-alloy wheel with more spokes than the other wheel designs. There are a few models which vary to a greater degree from the base design. This provides you with lots of room for personal preference when you select your wheels.

Models featuring increased variation are the model 190 bi-color radial spoke wheel, and model 198, which is the composite, radial-spoke wheel. Both are 19-inch models. The bi-color wheel features a black and silver wheel design. The composite model is a two-piece wheel.

The star spoke design is the 3 Series wheel which comes in the most different models. There are more than 25 variations on the star spoke wheels, which begin with the base 136 model. The 136 is a basic 16-inch alloy wheel with a star spoke design.

There are also basic star-spoke wheels available in a number of designs in 17, 18 and 19-inch sizes. More specialized options are also available. The star-spoke 199 is a 19-inch black colored rim. The 311 model is available in either chrome or silver, and the 179 model is a two-piece composite.

The parallel-spoke wheel only comes in one model. The model 85 is a 17-inch wheel which features pairs of matching spokes radiating out from the wheel.

The ellipsoid-spoke wheel is the only other wheel currently listed on BMW's website for the 3 Series cars which is only available in a single model. It is the model 162, a single-piece, 19-inch model.

BMW offers the V-spoke designs in three models, 188, 285, and 72, for the 3 Series cars. Model 72 is an 18-inch wheel whereas the other two available V-spoke wheels are of the 17-inch variety.

Cross spoke wheels are only available in 18 or 19-inch size wheels. Model 197 is a single-cast, 18-inch wheel, and model 78 is a composite wheel with titanium bolts. The 3 Series 19-inch option is also a composite wheel. The M Cross Spoke Composite Wheel 101 is available in both sizes.
